New Venture:
A Bold New Concept in Care: Intergenerational Supportive Living

Tom Polman’s lifelong work as a musician propelled his journey into senior care. He has been fortunate enough to play with luminaries like Pete Townshend, Bruce Springsteen and James Taylor.
For the past four years, he has been working on much smaller stages – entertaining seniors with classic songs at some 40 assisted living communities in Virginia. He has seen firsthand that even the most compromised residents, some deep in the throes of dementia, tap their feet, smile, and rediscover buried emotions when they hear the music.
At the same time, Tom has seen too many young people succumbing to alcohol and drug addictions.
That led him to a novel idea: Intergenerational Supportive Living. Tom plans a facility where lonely, low-income seniors can interact with young people between 18 and 30 who are in recovery. For the first time, different generations will be able to live together in a supervised setting. Young and elderly will teach, influence and inspire one another.
The facility will be called Bea’s Place, named after Tom’s late mother, Beatrice, who was a consummate caregiver for her mother, mother-in-law and three children. Tom knows that she would support the dual mission: supporting young people in recovery from substance use and helping seniors find new purpose.
Bea’s Place, a 501©3 organization, will come to fruition in Manassas, Virginia. For more information, visit www.beasplace.org. Contributions are welcome.

Tom will also offer a free copy his brand new CD, TENDER CUTS, featuring 15 original compositions, ranging from the 90s – present for those who make $50+ donations to Bea’s Place, his new endeavor.
Barbara is offering her book, The Fates Were Favorably Inclined, to classmates for $30.00; regular price $40.00. The $10 leftover will go to the ongoing class fund, possibly a donated class mosaic. For additional information, contact: burton.barbara@gmail.com.
